NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC PRESENTS SECOND SEASON OF EMMY- AND GOLDEN GLOBE-NOMINATED ANTHOLOGY SERIES, “GENIUS: PICASSO”

The second season of National Geographic’s Emmy-, Golden Globe-, and Screen Actor's Guild Award-nominated 10-part global event series, “GENIUS: PICASSO”, explores the Spanish expatriate's devotion to his craft, his contribution to modern art and his turbulent personal life. Antonio Banderas brings to life the artistic career of the titular artist: Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Crispiniano de la Santísima Trinidad Ruiz Picasso. The new season, from Fox 21 Television Studios, is executive produced by Brian Grazer and Ron Howard’s Imagine Entertainment, MWM Studios and EUE/Sokolow Entertainment. Showrunner, executive producer, writer and director Ken Biller also returns.

The script is based on the book Loving Pablo, Hating Escobar by Virginia Vallejo, the Colombian journalist who had a volatile affair with drug lord Pablo Escobar. The story chronicles the rise and fall of Escobar and his relationship with Vallejo throughout a reign of terror that tore a country apart. Vallejo was the one that trained Escobar how to use the media, deal with the press and address the public. In his political career, she was the most significant figure.

Based on true events, SOBIBOR tells the story of the heroism of Soviet officer Alexander Pechersky. Sobibor was one of four concentration camps in Poland. Prisoners were not separated into two groups like many of the other camps: fit or unfit for work. Those who arrived in Sobibor were doomed for death. With the greatest odds against him, our hero managed to do the impossible — in only three weeks he organized a daring revolt, which aided the mass escape of Sobibor’s condemned prisoners.
